Kitchen Cleaning Tip: Wrap Refrigerator Shelves in Plastic Wrap

There are many household appliances that need to be cleaned around the house. Some are best taken care of with a simple and quick clean up, while others may require more detailed cleaning done to them; however, it would be more convenient if you could cut down some of the house work. It would help you reduce some of the stress that derives from having to do extra work.

The refrigerator is one of those pieces of equipment that easily end up with some spills or food stains in almost every unimaginable corner. These spills and stain need to be cleaned up immediately to avoid food contamination. Wrapping refrigerator shelves in plastic wrap is a good way to clean spills and food residues easily with just a single wipe.

• Cooler container
• Water and detergent
• Sponge
• Flat table
• Roll of plastic wrap

Start by removing all the food items from inside your refrigerator. You can place all this food inside a cooler or another refrigerator while you work on yours. After you´ve taken out all the food, make a mixture of soap and antibacterial detergent and wash your fridge thoroughly using the sponge. Take the shelves to the kitchen sink and wash them with plenty of water and soap.

Wipe off the shelves and put them on a corner until they are completely dry. After a while, make sure they are dry, and then place them over the flat table. Open up the package of plastic wrap and set it over the table. Pull out a sheet of plastic wrap using both hands, and wrap it around the shelf as in the picture.

Press against the sheet of plastic wrap with your hand to flatten it over the glass in the shelf. Pass your hand over it to get rid of air bubbles. Pull out another sheet of plastic wrap to cover the other half of the shelf and perform the same steps. Apply two sheets of plastic wrap to the rest of the shelves.

Take the shelves, one at a time, and place them inside the refrigerator. Your refrigerator should look clean and neat after the cleaning and wrapping of the shelves. You can bring the food inside, and while you do, you may want to organize the food neatly inside the fridge. Don´t forget to wipe off all bottled food and other food packages before putting them back into the refrigerator.

The maintenance of your refrigerator after the wrapping should be very easy. Whenever a spill or stain of food occurs, get a clean piece of wet cloth and wipe the mess off the plastic wrap. Spills that are wiped off immediately as they occur should come off easily.

If you find out that a food substance has stuck on the wrap very deeply, or that the spill has spread out enough to be cleaned with a single wipe, peel off the wrap completely and apply a new sheet of plastic wrap. You won´t have trouble pulling the wrap off. Just grab one edge of the plastic wrap with your fingers and pull it out. It will come off easily.

To apply a new set of plastic wraps, just follow the same steps mentioned above.
